Out Here At The Edge Of The World

Kidnapped and bound in the back of a truck, 14-year-old Beth faces the cruellest of trials to survive. Far from school and home, she must discover a whole new strength within herself – and finally unravel the mystery of her family’s disappearance.

This is the story of Beth Singer, young adult fiction’s new heroine. Originally told over three books – The Valley Apart, A Subtle Way, and Kushan Empire – and now combined into a single full length story, Beth’s tale brings action and mystery to the wilds of the Central Asia, and asks an ancient question in a thoroughly modern way: can you do what’s right by doing wrong?

Synopsis

Out Here At The Edge Of The World opens with 14-year-old British schoolgirl Beth Singer’s kidnapping in the Central Asian nation of Isfastan. Beth wants to reconnect with her diplomat father, her only living family member, but those hopes are wrecked when he’s whisked away in the same attack. Her only chance of escape will cost her the lives of two companions, and when she makes that terrible decision, she finds herself lost and alone in the wilderness.

Stumbling across a remote mountain community that’s somehow sealed off from the rest of time, Beth is forced to shed the last remnants of her old weaknesses and insecurity and embrace a more nuanced morality in order to survive. Her decision to find and rescue her father ultimately sets up a confrontation with the architect of their kidnapping – and a run-in with the now much older friend she thought she had left for dead.
